Over 35 years experience in the field of Legal Metrology and Trading Standards and, as Chief Inspector of Weights & Measures, was responsible for ensuring compliance with legal requirements.

Over 15 years involvement, as technical assessor, of the accreditation of calibration laboratories, testing laboratories and certification bodies.

Since 1978 involved in providing training in the field of metrology for government bodies and businesses. Being involved since 2001 in the European Technical Assistance & Information Exchange (TAIEX) programme assisting countries joining the EU.

Convenor of WELMEC WG6 – Prepackages, producing guidance on legal requirements and Convenor of CEN/TC/WG3 – Sampling and Quantity Determination, producing European Standards for growing media and soil improvers, sometimes referred to as ‘composts’ and ‘mulches’.
